Arize Ngwuocha

Valuer, Estates Department

Background

I graduated from the University of Nigeria in Nsukka with a BSc in Estate Management, and gained an MSc in Real Estate Investment at City University Business School, London (now Cass Business School).  My initial post-graduate experience was at a firm of chartered surveyors in Port Harcourt. On moving to the UK at the beginning of 2001, I spent a short amount of time as an accounting assistant in London before joining NPS as a valuation assistant.

What do you do?

I provide professional support to clients on matters of property rating, valuations, and estate management. My principal focus is dealing with rating and valuation issues.  This includes preparation and presentation of cases for rates appeal, referencing, valuation of rateable properties and negotiations for rates refund. I also deal with development appraisals, negotiate rent levels on property leases, and estimate likely compensation claims in compulsory purchase cases.

Why NPS?

I’m very appreciative of the emphasis that NPS places on staff training, and it has helped me to gain membership of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.  My colleagues, from many different disciplines, are very professional and sociable.  The company also values and actively supports community involvement.  Together we have arranged for some surplus NPS computer equipment to be donated to the Department of Estate Management at the University of Nigeria, of which I am an alumnus.
