Director
Background
I graduated from university in 1998 with a degree in Building Services Engineering, and a diploma in Industrial Studies. Initially I joined Foremans Ltd in London as a mechanical design engineer, working on projects that included the replacement of the central plant at the Palace of Westminster. In 2003 I joined John Packer Associates (JPA), and became a Director three years later. In 2006 JPA became part of NPS Group.
What do you do?
I am a Director, based at our office in Uckfield, East Sussex. Our work is primarily associated with designing mechanical and electrical building services, paying particular attention to sustainability and energy efficiency.
To complement our design engineers, we employ a team of sustainability consultants. They advise colleagues on the design team, including architects and structural engineers, on how the selection of materials can improve energy efficiency and the internal environment. We also carry out modelling to replicate and test any solutions that are put forward.
Why NPS?
This is a great place to work, primarily because of the team we have developed. We have an eclectic mix of individuals from a wide variety of backgrounds, both in terms of training and experience. They are all committed to the progression of the company and its evolvement as our specialist areas move very quickly.
We are proud of our ethos, which is to provide the client with holistic solutions. With that in mind, we try to ‘design out’ building services as much as possible. This strategy might seem perverse for a services consultancy, but we believe it is the only real way to create a sustainable and comfortable environment.
